There's a tendency nowadays for all laptops and netbooks to come with built-in mics and video cameras which are permanently 'on' and if not can in fact be remotely activated by the authorities (if you're using a Windows OS). I don't think it's a good idea to become breezily accustomed to always having a camera on you, so whenever I buy a new computer (which is more often than I would like) the first thing I do is tape over the camera lens and stick a bit of Blutack over the mic orifice. No remote spy is ever going to see anything of this turkey and what he gets up to in what should be the privacy of his own home!
